11/11 Local Maine Restaurants Show Gratitude for Vets

***First of all, we all need to THANK any service member whenever we see them, and be aware of our older Vets who may not be in uniform. It's important that we celebrate their sacrifice every day of the year.

So what's really great about Veteran's Day besides the influx of "Homecoming" montage's and iconic pictures thanking our Vets is when businesses all over offer something a little extra.

In Maine, "Support Local" business is making sure to turn the cards around for those who "wrote a blank check" of THEIR freedom to become brave Service Men & Women.  Here is a list of a few restaurants we've found out to be showing their support with a comped meal, with proof of service, to enjoy on this special day.

Ladies: Single vs In A Relationship

How to keep the friendship relevant when your friends are taken off the market

Just because you are one or the other, doesn't mean you have to miss your "Gal Pal Time".

I am happy for those of my friends who have found their other half, and I'm supportive all the way. Otherwise, what kind of friend would I be? However, there's this underlying problem that tends to cause grief and discontent due to our marital status.
Some couples will create tighter circles with other couples and singles will do the same. Society makes it seems that the two worlds simply can't understand the other. It's as if there is no co-mingling between the two worlds. No one said it had to be that way.

Also, who said that just because we are in love with someone, we have to be glued to their hips constantly? We can be independant and in a relationship at the same time. Hopefully, it's not stemming from trust issues or they are one of those couples who want to do EVERYTHING together (nothing wrong with that, most of the time).  One thing is for sure, we need not jealous when we are separated from our significant others, otherwise, why are you together? (That's a totally different topic though.) You've got to be able to put down the phone and spend time with the one's you're with, he's not going anywhere.

Now that we've established the importance of not leaving each other behind, there are plenty of ways we can overcome this dilemma of how to keep our girlfriends close no matter what their status. It really is elementary.

Hey, how does this Sunday work for you?
First, lets just remember one does not change personalities once they are taken off the market. Priorities just get moved around and we have to adapt to the times. Make plans,so everyone can join in. Giving a bit more of a heads up to a nonexclusive event is not going to put anyone out. It just means marking off your calendars and letting everyone in on the deal. This way, everyone knows and respond accordingly.

Ladies Night isn't just about hooking up and cheap cocktails.
It can still be just as fun with a mix. Plus it's wrong to think that the "locked down" and married ladies won't know how to roll with the night or even be your best wing woman. Sometimes, when they are approached, they are the best in diverting attention towards you since you are available. Then there's the point where we all want to put on our dancing shoes and rock the night away.

It's not always about sports.
Sometimes, both men and women enjoy attending a sporting event together, but there are other outing that both single and in-a-relationship friends can do together. Find events that your significant other's can partake in at the sametime, like the Art Walk, going to an amusement park or a comedy show. These types of plans create many levels of conversation and mixing up interactions that might not have happened. No one cares if you are with someone or not and it's not a third wheel kind of feeling either.

My boyfriend/husband has this new friend I want you to meet.
Awesome, be open if your girlfriend wants to introduce you to one of her man's friends (it's more of a compliment than out of pity). Some people take offense to this idea or simply don't want to be set up by friends. Who is your best ally if it isn't your friend? We're not all legit matchmakers, however you never know if they will be the one. We never know who will come across our paths, so being turned off to the idea could be your worst move. Plus, Double Dating relieves a lot of pressure when it comes to interacting, ie no weird/awkward environments.

So in conclusion, get your single girlfriends in on your new love life experience. Have them meet the guy in your life, and the sooner the better. This way, your single friends don't feel as if they don't matter anymore. We all need our friends and it's important to have a healthy balance. Ending up without any friends simply because you didn't make any time for them due to your change in marital status, is just one road no one wants to walk down.

Maine in March

For those of you looking to get out here are some options.

It's the First Friday of the month, and we all know what's going down. The Art Walk is a great way to get from the East End all the way to the West with many stops in between. It's always the beginning to the end of Restaurant Week. We all know, some of these venues also provide free wine or tasty treats while you admire their work.

As you stroll down Congress, check out the 3 course meals many of the the local spots are offering that start at $25 up to $55. I have tasted a few this week, and as usual, my taste buds have not been lacking excitement.  If you want to make the rounds, it's recommended to pick a course offered and then journey onto the next for a different course. This can be done, mostly because they can price out the selection for you. It is not known however, if all are able to do this, but it doesn't hurt to ask.

Below is the link to the THIS months list of galleries to check out. Give it a click, the artistic/cultural stimulation starts at 5pm through 7/730pm.

Participating Venues of First Friday Art Walk

Here is the listing of restaurants participating in Restaurant Week. You'll have to scroll down the list for the one's in Portland. There are quite a few favorites on there, and I know you won't be disappointed.

Maine Restaurant Week Listing

This will be a good weekend to spend in Portland, and please, check out other restaurants on the list who may not be in this area. Natalies and 3 Crows in Camden and downtown Rockland are great options in the Mid-Coast.

If you have been to any on the list, please leave your experience in the comments. Especially if you have a recommendation.

Happy Friday

Getting right to the "Good Stuff": Introductions

Hello All,

I'm starting this blog to centralize a location for my friends and clients to find the good deals around Maine, ideas for fun dating, and motivation in building/rebuilding relationships. You & Me is here for you Maine.
An introduction to who I am and the company I've been building would be simply explained by one word, loyalty. No matter who you are or where you've come from, the people who stand behind you are your support throughout your journey. We've all been through rough patches and hopefully we've found ways to bounce back/recover. I for one am always looking outside the box on ways to help those who seek out my insight, whether they realize it's happening or they knew it was coming.
I never claim to be the best or always have the right answers, however, no matter how it happens, people end up taking my advice. I am grateful and humbled when I receive feedback of positive outcomes. It builds more confidence in my ability to figure out what exactly you need to find success in friendship, love, career or just even themselves. It means, I was in the right place at the right time to be of assistance.
I've had a good rate of success when it came to pair friends together. Some have been together going on 5 years now, one pair even have a child together. These are reasons that keep me positive and wanting to be their for others.
Through creating a business, I've been able to host singles events such as a Cupids Bash on Valentines in 2012 and then a Date Auction where we donated a percentage of the money collected to Pink Ribbon. I love planning and seeing events through whether it be a corporate event or a Birthday Dinner with VIP after at a local night club. My goals are to be the premier Event Planner in Maine, especially after all of the networking I do. I seem to be everyone's "Go-To" whenever they need a venue or entertainment. When they don't enjoy making the plans, they come to me. I smile and usually have an immediate answer for them. Just yesterday, I had a request for a bakery that made chic cupcakes for a Moving-A-Way brunch. That was a "piece of cake", pun intended. lol
It's inevitable to say, I really do enjoy helping to plan events and get the word out for them. The next step is to push my business name out there and hope those who believe in the work I do will help spread the word. I also love hearing about new businesses and products that are local and need promotion. Any time small business owners stand behind their products and/or services, I want to hear about them so I can also spread the word. Any opportunity to network is a plus in my book.
With that, I think I'll end this post with a thought that provokes positivity. We all want to smile from either a friend giving us a compliment, a stranger holding the door for us, being told that the person in line ahead of you notice you weren't having the best day and paid for that coffee, our significant others' or maybe we just decided to do something thoughtful for someone else. To keep the drama at bay and positivity on a higher level, just think about what small thing you could do to keep that smile present on both parties faces. It really doesn't take much and you never know who is watching.

Here's to making the best of every day!

St. Valentine Says Plan Ahead!

Hello All,

We live in a pretty happening state, believe it or not. Maine doesn't let a little crazy winter weather keep them from getting out! I have been requesting a lot from friends on Facebook this week, letting me in on what's going down for the Cupid's favorite holiday, Valentines. I am still collecting a lot of events but here are some that I think are worth checking out/buying tickets too.

Making Reservations
A close friend of mine told me about this, so we're excited to share it. They are having a Grand Opening of their Tasting Room in the Old Port. This event starts at Noon and goes till 8pm. Click the link below for more info and the address on Fore St. For those of you who know the area, it's right next to Rosie's Cafe.
This is a great idea for a memento to take home from your date. Make your reservations between 6-8 pm
I love it when a restaurant makes it easy. Must reserve by Feb 10th! You will love this menu, and it even comes with desert!
Sometimes you just need to get away without actually getting away. One way to do this is booking a room for you and your Valentine at a local hotel. With this option, you will receive dinner for two at their C-Square (downstairs) restaurant and a $100 Gift Certificate towards any service(s) at the in house spa, Akari. After dinner, you have the next option of cocktails with an amazing view from the Top of the East or returning to your room for some You&Me time. ;)

Thinking Ahead
Girls don't always need Flowers and Chocolates on V Day, sometimes TICKETS are the best way to win them over.
For those of you who missed last weekends fantasy Ice Bar events at the Samoset Resort in Rockport, ME, and Portland Harbor Hotel in Portland, Maine. Don't fret, here's your chance to make one.
Let's face it, your guy loves beer. Maybe you do to! So why not get in on a tour where he's happy and you get to spend time together. This local business gives tours on the weekends and they are FUN! Check out what's in store for this month and get your tickets today!
If you and your date love inventive cocktails and creative pastries/sweet treats, as well as enjoy a good competition, this is the event you'll look forward to. Tickets are still available part of the Annual Event, the best part, buying multiple tickets gets you a little discount. ;)

NightLife in the 207
For those of you looking to party the weekend away club style, here are a few options for you, single or not!
I usually wouldn't post another company's mingling event, but I think this idea is great. The Portland Music Hall are bringing out all the hypes of Valentines with this event. I love the idea of a Prom and live music, after high school. Anything for people to get dressed up and feeling good. Check out their event page on Facebook for ticket prices and time.
Ladies, lets the champagne flow! Both nights, great DJs and Bottles for $10. If you're doing a group thing, book VIP asap. Great way to make the night more exciting! I'd say invite any of the sexy people you see on the dance floor up for a drink!
Give-A-Ways and sexy people, what more could you ask for?
Friday Night: The first 50 ladies through the door receive a special Valentine's Door Prize
Saturday Night: Grand Prize to the sexiest lady in a little black dress.
We all love it when we can hit up one spot with multiple options to keep us entertained. TownSquare Media is hooking you up with a DJ [downstairs] and two live acts [upstairs]. This event starts at 8pm and the cover at the door is $10.
Where wearing a certain color, gives it all away. Club promotion - The only Valentine's Party in Portland that rewards you for shredding pictures of you and your ex!! Toss'em in the shredder at the downstairs bar to receive $1 OFF your FIRST drink!

This is just a few of the options I've come up with and excited to share. If anyone knows of other events going on outside of the Greater Portland area, please forward them along to youandmeconnections@gmail.com
